So where do we go from here?

Right then, with the events in South Africa well and truly behind us(ish), we find ourselves in a post-World Cup pre-new season limbo. And already it aches.

So, with about a month to kill before the season kicks off, how will football fans spend their days? Well, after the Euros 2 years ago, Sportales came up with their top 5 things to do in the football season break, which you can find here. Let's have a wee gander.

1. Spend time with your family
I think this is fair. If your sundays are so often filled with a double header of Premier league action followed by a cheeky La Liga match in the evening, why not take your loved ones out for a change? Remove the cobwebs from your closet-dwelling partner and treat them to a day of your undivided, but understandably limited, attention.

2. Get into shape
I don't really see how you can't keep in shape while the footie season is on to be honest. "Cut down the booze and fast food for a while", Sportales adds. What, and skip the beer garden and Magners ON ICE on a beautiful summer's day? Don't be silly.

3. Read a book on the beautiful game
Fair enough. There are loads of great books out there written by (but mostly about) some great names in football. But don't limit yourself to footie-related books, use this short period as an opportunity to broaden your knowledge on other things in life, which I have been quite reliably informed do exist.

4. Teach your children about the beautiful game
If you have kids, great idea. If not, maybe teach someone who for some (frankly unforgivable) reason has no knowledge of the game? Or perhaps just someone who suffers from retrograde amnesia?

5. Plan your finances
Always a good idea to keep on top of these, but if you're slowly slipping into a whirlwhind of crippling debt, then you probably ought to do something about it.

So there are a few ideas about how to spend your days during this wretched time. Alternatively you could just lock yourself in a dark room and recite the history of the world cup winners and hosts from 1930. That should take you about a month.

What do you plan on doing in the next few weeks? Post ideas and suggestions below.

And on the first day, Paddy pondered.

'Cogito ergo sum'. This is a Latin phrase, famously uttered by the great philosopher Rene Descartes. It roughly translates as "Paddy thinks therefore Paddy is". And it's true.

'Who's your Paddy?', I hear you cry. I am.
